Assisted reproductive technologies (ARTs)
Assisted reproductive technologies (ARTs) are medical procedures designed to assist individuals and couples in achieving pregnancy. Here are the most common forms of ARTs:
In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF)
IVF is a procedure where eggs are removed from a woman’s ovaries and fertilised with sperm in a laboratory. The resulting embryos are then transferred to the woman’s uterus to achieve pregnancy.
Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI)
ICSI is a procedure used in conjunction with IVF, where a single sperm is injected directly into an egg to achieve fertilisation.
PICSI and IMSI
Physiological Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (PICSI) and Intracytoplasmic Morphologically Selected Sperm Injection (IMSI) are advanced forms of ICSI used in cases of male factor infertility. They are laboratory techniques used during IVF (In vitro fertilisation) procedures to help select the best sperm for fertilisation.

Artificial insemination (AI) and Intrauterine insemination (IUI)
AI (Artificial insemination) and IUI (Intrauterine insemination) are two types of fertility treatments that involve placing sperm directly into the woman’s reproductive tract to increase the chances of fertilisation.

Donor eggs or sperm
Donor eggs or sperm can be used in conjunction with IVF or IUI to achieve pregnancy in cases where one partner has fertility issues or for same-sex couples.
Surrogacy
Surrogacy involves using a gestational carrier to carry a fertilised embryo to term, typically in cases where the woman cannot carry a pregnancy herself.

Hormone Therapy
Hormone therapy can be an effective treatment for couples struggling with infertility caused by hormonal imbalances or irregularities. It is a form of assisted reproductive technology that uses medications to stimulate the production of hormones that are necessary for conception and pregnancy.

Fertility Preservation and Egg Freezing
Fertility preservation, also known as egg freezing or oocyte cryopreservation, is a medical process in which a woman’s eggs are harvested and frozen for future use. This is typically done for women who want to delay pregnancy, either for personal or medical reasons.
